A couple of things to note.

1. You do not need an app.yaml file to deploy to google appengine. The mody_webapp which you can download from here

http://downloads.xhaus.com/modjy_webapp_google_appengine/

Does not contain an app.yaml, but you can see it running on Google AppEngine here

http://jywsgi.appspot.com/

2. The purpose of app.yaml is to route URLs requests to the components of application. However, without knowing the structure or your application and URLs it supports, there is no way I can tell what the structure of your app.yaml should be, or even if you need one.

I suggest starting with the documentation

http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/configyaml/appconfig_yaml.html

3. This is really a technical support question that is more suitable for a list like Google Engine for Java

Alan, I really want to try this so I can create a simple rendering rules XSLT template for some XBRL (www.xbrl.org). However the modjy_app.zip does not contain an app.yaml file, so Google App Engine rejects my attempt to deploy. What would be the contents of the app.yaml file? (I am new to GAE and Python, and may have been misguided when I tried the exercise, because now I realize jython is Java based [duh]). Thanks!

Sorry, I haven't written that up; maybe in the future.

I suggest that you ask your question on the "Django-On-Jython" google group.

Thanks for the jython on GAE info. I am using GAE python and slowly checking it out a jython version. The startup time is an issue, but I think GOOG will fix it. It's an interesting engineering problem. :)
How can I use django templates on GAE jython? Have you written this up somewhere? I searched this site, no luck. Thanks!

Thanks Nick.

I'm glad that I've been able to illustrate to you the benefits of jython on AppEngine.

Thanks again for the great talk about AppEngine: it was most informative.

Regards,

Alan.

Excellent example! After this and your previous post, I will henceforth no longer claim that Jython on App Engine doesn't provide useful benefits over cpython. ;)
